What is boudoir or boudoir photography? Boudoir photography or lingerie photography is a private and sensual experience. Some women may say that it is sexy pictures for husband, since most pictures are taken for that someone special in your life. I would have to add that it is not naked pictures, but more implied, which allows the viewer to use his or her imagination. Wikipedia defines Boudoir Photography as:
Boudoir photography is a photographic style featuring intimate, romantic, and sometimes erotic images of its subjects in a photographic studio, bedroom or private dressing room environment, primarily intended for the private enjoyment of the subject and his or her romantic partners. It is distinct from glamour and art nude photography in that it is usually more suggestive rather than explicit in its approach to nudity and sexuality, features subjects who do not regularly model, and produces images that are not intended to be seen by a wide audience, but rather to remain under the control of the subject.
So, the next question would be; where should this shoot take place? Well, in most situations boudoir photography takes place in the clients bedroom or in a hotel room. Now keep in mind that most photographers take his or her photography serious and there is no funny business between the client and the photographer. Most photographers will welcome a chaperone to be present, just to CYA. Unconventional boudoir photography does not have to be at home in a bed; it can also be outdoors or anyplace your imagination takes you.
This week I had the opportunity to photograph a dominatrix. She contacted me looking for some new pictures for her website. I decided to do it and we went into the planning phase. I try to get an understanding of what my client’s vision is, so that I can turn it into a reality. I want to know what look the client is after and this client had informed me that she wanted to shoot on train tracks. I had the perfect spot in mind. There were some train tracks behind my work, they did not have a lot of activity and it was semi-private, so it would be the perfect location. I snapped some pictures with my cell phone and shared them with her. She fell in love with them and a couple of days later, we were shooting. She was pleased with the end result and I hope you are as well.
I hope I have not bored you too much. I had a lot of fun writing this one like all of my blogs. I trust I have given you some valuable tips to think about, before planning your next shoot. It’s not all bad, just be clear and informative, it will save you a lot of headaches. Remember nothing is set in stone and there is not a perfect formula, so go out and have some fun.
